Sony KDS-R70XBR2 70-inch SXRD HDTV

Now that SONY has discontinued rear projection and this model is not shown on the product line, what do you see down the road as far as service/repair for this model. I bought this after much research but sure didn't expect it to be obsolete 5 months after buying

I do not think you need to worry right now. I`m a Sony Superbeta hi-fi owner if you can believe that!! Went for the quality, not convenience. During the VHS rise, I was still able to get quality repair, parts, and cleaning for my superbeta machine. They stayed loyal for quite a period of time.

But, just for info and your own peace of mind, contact SONY and see first hand what they tell you.

I doubt you'll have any issues with repairs, and the XBR2 came with an extra bulb so you are covered there as well.

I'm not too worried about that myself.
For one thing I got a 5 year extended warranty that includes bulbs & the place I bought the XBR2 from is an authorized service center.

Don't fret about Sony not building these sets anymore & be relieved that you got one before they were sold out!!

Hey, thanks for all the replies; makes me feel better. I ,too, got a 5 year extended warranty so felt pretty well covered there. It' s a great TV and my recent blu-ray addition is just fabulous. I'm a bit old (I guess) for play station but can imagine it would be great for those who do have them. Again, thanks for the replies.

I think that says it all! From what I've seen and read, Sony's newer replacement sets are lagging behind the competition.
