Krell Incorporates HDMI 1.3 with the Release of the Evolution 707 Preamp/Processor

Krell's new Evolution 707 surround preamp/processor features HDMI 1.3 functionality and 12 output stages with two center channel and four subwoofer outputs.

The 8.4 channel configuration has four HDMI inputs and supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio.

Balanced outputs and single-ended outputs are also included for use with conventional amplifiers.

Preamp mode bypasses all digital circuitry and routes the analog input, stereo or 7.1 multichannel, directly to the 16-bit balanced volume control.

Two DSPs, running in 64-bit dual precision mode, decode Dolby Digital Surround EX, Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 6.1 ES, DTS 5.1, DTS NEO:6 and Dolby Pro Logic II.

Maximum color depth has been increased from 24 bits to 48 bits and bandwidth from 165 MHz to 340 MHz.

It supports composite, S-Video or component signals and upconverts to 1080p.

The Evolution 707 is nearly 10-inches tall and weighs over 50 pounds. It has an aluminum chassis with diamond cut detailing. MSRP is $30,000.

I have been drooling over this pre/pro since I first saw it @ a show (static) I can't wait to hear it!!!

Didn't someone say the 707 won't be out til Sept? Krell is know for heavy products but how is it that the denon is heavier. The S-1000 was supposed to have HDMI 1.3 by end of second quarter but no word yet. The problem for me is that I can' t afford the 707 but I think I want something better than the S1000.

I have heard from Krell that the S1000 was held up waiting for the technology to get worked out in the 707, which is shipping now or very soon, it is heavily backordered, so will be a while before they are everywhere. The S1000 should be out in August.

Not sure what the weight matters, but FWIW Krell kept the analog analog and Denon didn't, I suspect this is part of why the Denon doesn't do analog as well as some other pre/pro's in it's price range.

If that is so, hopefully they will have a demonstration at Sound by Singer, like they did for the KID and the 707, this way I can check it out!!

Geez, for $30 grand this processor better wash my car and baby sit my kids. Krell has lagged so far behind in the S-1000(the unit they will sell the most of) I have almost given up. You can however take advantage of the new sound formats, if you buy the Denon BDCI3800 and just use the old HTS 7.1 as a preamp. It processes and passes through the Krell, and does a very good job of it. Movies like Rush Hour 3 in Blu-ray DTS-HD 7.1 sound excellent.
