I agree with Ken here.

Andrew was over when Kevin Miller was calibrating my projector and we tested what the DVDO could to on this front and its better to stick with 1080p/24 than messing with it. There was no question you could see it was better unaltered.

Perhaps this is different on some of those 1080p LCDs with 120 Hz motionflow sets specifically for sports but for The Italian Job - things looked best (on BR btw) on the native setting

For $40k, I don't think you are asking for too much at all!
I want serious video and audio processing for $40k!
$40k should get you processing for all current audio formats, and it should buy you a piece of Sony's "4k video" technology or at least something comparable.
For $40k, I want some future-proofing too if possible.
Also, $40k better buy you a good remote control - not like the little-crappy-credit-card-sized-junker they have been peddling lately - because the big fat shiny knob on the front is worthless when I'm kickin' back in my theater chair.

Future proofing has proven to be difficult to impossible.

ONLY Meridian has successfully pulled it off. Theta failed with their efforts (no shock there). Mark Levinson couldn't make the No. 40 be relevant for today's market thus the new preamp called the 502 (coming soon but without HDMI 1.3????). Halcro can't do it. Classe' can't do it. Krell can't do it.... How many more advertisers do I have to **** off here to prove my point!!!

The fact is: you buy gear in a time in history. You make the BEST decision you can to invest in the best, highest value gear and pull the trigger. The idea it will last you forever is flawed. Technology just moves to quickly now.

I do agree with you however at $40,000 - your expectations should be SKY HIGH!!!!! I would want everything.

I owned both the Meridian 861 (about $24,000 as i had it) and the Mark Levinson No. 40 ($30,000) and both were the best in audio and video at the time. But times change and so do high end companies. Expect more killer gear from all of the players mentioned in this post.

I know future-proofing is hard, but I do think if you can use the "4k video" processing idea, it would endure time better. Audio is harder, but then again multi-channel PCM should help endure time a little better as well.

setting up for a 4K projector would definitely future proof you for a while, until you can afford the cost, oh wait, even be allowed to get one, of the 4K projectors! What like 12 have been sold world wide??

I just think that if you can throw $40k at preamp, then $102k for a state of the art projector is probably w/in your range.
