Ooops, I slipped before finishing my post....
I think Plasma is the solution for larger systems. I also think the Blacks look better. I think LCD has more potential to become a better format long term but its hard to get them big enough as of today

I too prefer plasma for now but LCD is closing the gap quickly. New 120 Hz LCD sets have much better motion than even last generation ones and the blacks are getting better. I've heard it said that soon only one of these two will exist, I am not sure that is true, nor will it be for some time, but if some leap in technology alters price point significantly for one over the other, it just might happen. In the mean time the competition is good for us all.

I keep hearing the same thing about LCD beating Plasma into oblivion, but i still haven't seen an LCD that can compare to the best of the plasmas in Contrast ratio (By virtue of Good Blacks). Although I must say I was impressed with the new Sony XBR4/5 series.

I prefer LCD for a number of reasons. One, LCD consumes less power for equal to plasma size, two, LCD runs much cooler than plasma so no extra heat in the room (in hot Phoenix a plasma would make the AC run more than it has to with LCD), and three, no burn in consequences.
Yes, I know plasma plays blacks better but here that extra heat is not worth the extra black level to me. Both have a gorgeous picture, but the advantages of LCD here are very persuasive. If you live where its cold and that heat makes no difference go with plasma if you wish, but I'd rather have the cooler, less power consumptive LCD than a plasma one. |
