Mounting of plasma tv
I would like to hang a 42" in plasma on the wall but the studs are aluminum. Would butterfly bolts/nuts be the best thing to use when mounting the wall plate? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Should move this to the Plasma section to get any responses

Re: Mounting of plasma tv
What brand/model mounting bracket did you use? I will also be installing a 42″ Panasonic plasma in a few weeks and am looking for recommendations for mounting. The Panasonic brand mount runs around $300 but on eBay you can find them for sub $100 including shipping.
Also, where did you get that metal apparatus that the cables are popping out of? It really cleans up the look of the hole in the wall. |
Re: Mounting of plasma tv
My 60" plasma is hung off 2 Salamander uprights. The uprights allow the TV to be raised/lowered and tillted. The issue was that they are really designed to be used with one of their AV cabinets and are limited in weight capacity per shelf. Thus, I built my own AV rack with solid wood and drilled the holes at the same locations and attached the uprights. Simpler said then done. The legs of the stand are 1/2" threaded steel rods used to attach roofs. They are designed to handle 1000s of pounds of weight each. Neopreme washers, metal flat washer, and then a bolt go on each side of the 1/2" hole. All of that stuff can be bought at home depot. The rods are pre cut to 3', 4' and 5'' , but can be bought up to 10' lengths. If you go this route then feet should be heavy duty wheels or I used wood rails.

Re: Mounting of plasma tv
Since you have a 42", especially if its newer you could just use toggle bolts on the drywall (because 42" plasmas are very light weight) What i personally use in my installations are (http://www.toggler.com/index.html) but any toggle bolt with the proper weight requirements will do. If you don't feel comfortable with that you just need to use the toggle bolts with the stud. Most brackets are going to support your 42" with ease. The most common mistake is people using a level that comes with the bracket, they are usually not level. If you don't feel comfortable or are unsure don't do it. Have a trusted professional.
