Sony selling OLED sets @ Sony Style

Yep, the new sony XEL-1 is an 11" OLED display and available near you for the low price of $2,499.99. The panel itself is only 3 mm thick and boasts 1 million to one contrast.

I don't think any of us will be running to buy one for this price, but it's nice to see the technology already on the market. OLED has some distinct advantages over LCD and Plasma, but also has it's own problems. These displays have been used in cell phones for a while but this is one of the first actual TV sets to utilize the technology.

I'm going to go check one out either today or tomorrow at my local Sony Style store just for S&G's, I'll post back once I get my eyes on it!

I'm hoping by the time I need to replace my 70" XBR2 the OLED 70" sets will be around $5000! :D

We don't have a Sony Style store in my area :(, I'd like to see this sucker my self.

Yea it's wishful thinking but I do expect my set to last a lot longer than it's 5 year warranty!

How long have you had yours?

I got mine the end of 2006 and the bulb is still going strong.

If they have the build quality of their CRTs, they will easily last over a decade.
I eventually just ended up giving my 32" CRT away because I really wanted HDTV, and was tired of waiting for it to die. The last I heard it was still running strong.
