Mail in rebates
Mail in rebates.........Man they tick me off!!!

The laptop I just bought has $150 worth of mail in rebates (1 for $50 & 1 for $100)
Why have rebates?
If you are going to sell something for $700 then sell it for $700, don't make me have to fill out a bunch of forms copy receipts & cut up the box to get the UPC & then make me wait 8 to 12 weeks to get my money back!!

Do the companies actually make any money off this?
I mean 2 months interest on $150 is just a couple of bucks & it has to cost more than that in paying the people to process the rebate.

Get rid of the rebate & sell me the Damn computer for the sale price in the first place!!

Re: Mail in rebates
I feel your pain Moose, but factor in the fact that just like gift cards, something like half of these rebates never get filed and you'll see why they don't just sell it for X. I fill mine out as soon as I get home so I don't forget, my wife often doesn't, or waits so long they aren't good, or better yet, just long enough the box went out with the trash....

Re: Mail in rebates
I hear you Moose. kennyt is right though. I had in the past to discipline myself to fill out the rebate form right away. These companies bank on the fact that you will not send it back. And, the wait period is excessive and long.

Maybe, they have to wait till they have the funds!!!

Re: Mail in rebates
I can understand people not bothering with a $3-$5 rebate but $150?
Hell I even do the $3 rebates from Staples because you just have to hit the "Easy Button" & it's a piece of cake.
I'll jump through all their hoops for a $150 rebate though!!
I'll do all the rebates if for no other reason than I'm not going to let these companies rip me off!!

Re: Mail in rebates
Companies have Mail in rebates because there's a certain amount of breakage... meaning customers never redeem or redeem, things get lost, and they haven't made copies. It's the reality and I know this from experience in the world of high end rebates.
