While the out of the box performance of the AppleTV is anything but stellar there are a few ways to coax quite a bit of performance out of it with little effort. I'd like to open the discussion up to those who may have "hacked" their AppleTV's or found ways and/or software that help elevate the AppleTV from a 'me too product' to the true media server extender we've always dreamed of.

I object to the idea that Apple TV is considered HD and being promoted as such. Does it have an HD disc drive like a Blu-ray or HD DVD? No. It is or does it record HD like an HD DVR? Does it manage higher resolution music in iTunes from say DVD-Audio or SACD?

How is it HD anything?
