Xperinet v. Kaleidescape
We deal Xperinet and have sold/installed a handful of units in the past year. When we first started looking at DVD servers we went with Xperinet because Kaleidescape was twice the price and didn't have any features we saw (at the time) that merited the extra cost. The interface is nicer but is that worth twice as much?

Anyway, it is a cool system but the company just seems like they're always going to have problems fixed in 6 months and when that time comes it's still not ready. They seem to be computer smart but not custom integration smart. For example, the digital audio and analog audio outputs aren't active at the same time. This means you can't plug in the digital audio in a theater and analog audio into the music system.

I like their thin client though, you can mount it to the back of a display hung on a wall in a remote location. You don't get this with Kaleidescape. They also support Blu-ray, so that's cool.

But another problem is they keep crashing. The RAID-5 preserves data, but it sucks when we have to replace cards in these systems.

We're giving it another look and Kaleidescape is probably going to be the go-to piece now. We've already stopped selling Xperinet at this point because we don't trust it anymore. We're researching the Kaleidescape reliability and it seems to be better. Of course their rep told us we'd like the extra revenue from all the service calls we'd see, that's not something you want to boast about. But the price has dropped to near parity, and the form factor is nice, plus the GUI is far superior. We've actually installed one a client provided and we've had a good experience with it so far.

Re: Xperinet v. Kaleidescape
We're through with Xperinet as of yesterday. We have not had one system installed that hasn't been sent back. Clients aren't happy. Our last remaining unit was RMA'd yesterday.

We've had one Kaleidescape installed recently and we'll have another one within the next few months. We'll see how that works.

Hopefully, you will get things worked out.

Re: Xperinet v. Kaleidescape
Kalidescape HATES US on many levels but I still need to recommend them here.

They are the standard for severs and with their suit settled - my objection is gone. Well, no HD is another objection but my MAIN objection is gone...

Invest with confidence....
