Default HD Movie rentals from Apple

Check out the news from Apple:

http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com...boutApple.aspx

HD movie rentals through AppleTV. Supported by ALL of the major movie studios. I'm sure that HD purchases are not far behind. Gates touched on getting rid of physical medium as the future focus in a recent discussion as well.

It seems to me that Bluray and HD-DVD are just a temporary "stop" in the HD video journey.

I couldn't agree with you more. The AppleTV was horrid at launch but Jobs and Apple have now taken the necessary steps towards making it relevant and a giant waiting in the wings. This whole 720p HD 'rental' is just a testing ground for bigger things down the pike.

You are right, but hd-dvd and bluray are more at a dead-end than just a temporary stop. Steve is right - just as we have gone paperless and wireless, we are about to go physical medium-less.
