Does "breaking in" speakers really help?

What do you think of "breaking in speakers". Does it actually help or is it an excuse to justify crappy sounding speakers and you let your ears adjust to them?

No, speakers do require break in. Depending on the speaker, the time required is different, but I am always impressed with the change the first 50 hours or so. I frequently leave new speakers playing when I am out to run up the hours on them prior to critiquing them. I have had horrible first impressions of speakers only to fall in love with them once the broke in.

I`m glad you spoke that one up kennyt. It was not until I started reading high end magazines that I even knew this was necessary. However, I must admit that my excitement of bbuying a new piece of equipment, and listening to it, is what usually happens.

I guess now that I`m re - building again, I can make this happen.
