No sound from speakers using 16 guage wire
 

I have a really good JVC receiver but cheap Realistic speakers. I tried upgrading the speaker wire to 16 guage, but then got no sound at all from the speakers. The JVC manual says, "Caution: speaker impedance 8-16 OHMS." and indicates the front channel output power is "70 watts per channel, min. RMS, both channels driven into 8 ohms at 1kHz..." Is the problem with my speakers? Thank you.

If the speakers were working with the old wire, I'd say no they are fine. Maybe the new wire?

There must be something wrong with your new wired connection...increasing the guage of wire to the speakers can only bring more current capabilities; it cannot prevent electrical energy from traveling..just the opposite.
