APOGEE

Though they have grown on me over time, initially I was not a big fan of Planar design speakers. Magnepan, Martin Logan, etc. However, at the Stereo hi-fi show, with a Vpi turntable, my Kevin Eubanks LP (yes I brought some vinyl!!), with Jeff Rowland electronics, I heard the Apogee Duettas.

Crystal clear high freqencies, excellent midrange, with very good bass. It was the balance of the sound that really struck me. I don`t hardly or say these things often, but, it was like Kevin Eubanks was standing in front of me playing his guitar. I will never forget that demo.

Has anyone had a similar experience with Apogee speakers?

Yes! And they are indeed an amazing speaker design - the entire family, for the most part.

It is sad that they are not really being made anymore. I also feel that balance and sound-staging are among the best of any type of speaker ever invented! I would love to get a hold of a set of Apogee Grands. Less than 25 pair were made and sold back in the day.

I totally agree with you. I did also did get to hear the Grands as well. What can I say, absolutely wonderful. Sorry to hear they are on there way out.

Here is a picture of Apogee Scintilla, Apogee stages, and Hill Plasma, all working together.
The Hill Plasma works from 700 hz to 100,000 hz, then going down the Apogee Stages from 700 hz down to 200 hz, then Apogee Scintillas from 200 hz down to 25 hz. A super system!!
