I've tried X10, and it was fine for a few months. It has problems with anything hooked up to a surge protector and I also encountered other interference problems. My X10 receiver unit just finally died. Now I have all these controllers that are worthless unless I buy another receiver. So, I just gave up on X10.

First off, I'm not representing this company.

But...Control4 make lighting switches and dimmers that integrate with home automation, unlike other brands which are proprietary [and costly], and I personally have it, use it and love it.

With the theater control, one can have programmed lighting scenes via Zigbee wireless communication nodes, which is more robust than RF....believed upon field testing. Then add the 'Scene' settings, the bathroom dimming after 11pm, etc. and the cool factor is well and truly realized. Then there is the button feedback letting you know that the upstairs lights are on, while you are leaving the garage. Beyond this is temperature control accessible via internet access...

Integration is key, yes?

Control 4 is gaining serious momentum in that it can do a LOT of what Crestron can do at a fraction of the price yet is far easier to program thus b-list dealers can do home automation without classes and bids that start at $100,000. Those dealers love it.
