Good - Better - Best in HDMI cables.

On the high end, I like Dtrovision and Transparent for HDMI cables.

In the mid-level I like Ultralink and Kimber.

On the lower end look to these accell cables. I know my reviewers use them with great results.

NOT ALL HDMI cables are created equal. I have learned this the HARD way with my system and all of the handshake issues. Its not a waste of time or money to look into the best HDMI cable you can afford for your system.

I have to add the Monster cables as well. I have several of their 1000 level HDMI cables around, I have some from Audioquest as well and everything else is a complete mix, I even have some Monoprice cables (bought a whole bunch of them in different lengths to keep on hand) and have successfully used them for HD DVD and Blu-ray without incident.

Up until recently I could only use HDMI for video, so I haven't gotten to high end in these cables yet but I am sure that will change soon.

After trying some mediocre HDMI cables, I purchased a Liberty DigitaLinx cable. The improvement is noticeable and the price is right. They come in 1 and 2M lengths and are 1.3 compliant.

As a side note: Anyone looking for a compact right-angle HDMI (Male/Female) adapter I can highly recommend the HDMI-MF-90 and the HDMI-MF-270 or HDMI-MF-90(R), reverse 90 degrees. They are available through Stevenson Technical Services, Inc. http://www.stsi.net

I use monoprice cables. I always thought that expensive cables like Monster were the biggest rip-off. After all, if the signal is digital, unlike analog, there should be absolutely no difference in quality, provided, of course, that the digital signal is getting through.
If I am wrong about this, I would appreciate an explanation from anyone more knowledgeable.

I might not be more in the know but I can tell you all HDMI cables are NOT created equal.

I you can find cheap ones that work - great for you. I have found that mid to high priced cables work best - specifically the fiber optic ones from Dtrovision. Those work best on long runs. On the lower end, Acell, Kimber and Ultralink have worked well in my system and the systems of our staff.

Unlike the old days of digital audio cables in audiophile systems - today's world has a handshake issue thanks to HDCP and I find some cables make a better connection re: making the handshake than others. It should theoretically work that way but those are my findings.

Feel free to call me crazy. I am just trying to help people save the headaches that Intel has given us en route to copy protected HD content.

I don't doubt that there are cables that don't work properly. But that does not mean there is any benefit to spending $100 or more for a cable when a $10 cable will work just as well. I think you should be fine going with the lowest priced cable certified by HDMI.org. If I am wrong about this, somebody please correct me. A few years ago, Consumer Reports and PC World, testing showed virtually no difference between expensive and inexpensive cables. They also said that gold-plated connectors (even monoprice cables have these) are purely a marketing ploy. Here is a link to PC World (CR is subscription only.):
