I have managed to get all but 1 of my cables for free. The guy who installed my Comcast cable gave me 3 for my household, where as at the time I only had 1 HD tv. I wish I would have waited to buy the 1 that I got just a few weeks prior that I use for my PS3 connection

That is right.But there are still some difference among HDMI cables,such as length,price.

The cable does make a difference. Much of it depends on the cable length.
The longer the cable, the higher the capacitance. The worst the signal degradation.
Essentially, if you are running shorter than 25ft. You'll be fine.
But longer than that, quality of the cable comes into play. When the cable is so long that it stops working, you'll need a HDMI extender.
It's a high impedance buffer that eliminate the capacitance.
Something like Octava HDMI/DVI Extender
