Costco.com has sold out of the $79.99 A3's; but my local store still has a big stack of them. Funny how it was being sold side by side with the regular Toshiba DVD player for $99.99 (now $69.99). Even when they could get 7 total free HD-DVD movies, customers would prefer to pay more for a product that does less without the free movies! Go figure!
An employee now tells me that they may drop the price to $49.99 if they still don't sell; and even though the rebate is over, that still includes the two free movies in the box! There are no CC's around here; but I'm sure they are worth checking for deals on returned A35's. I suspect plenty of existing titles will be available on Ebay (for much less than the price of a regular DVD) for some time to come. Last edited by rex; 03-06-2008 at 01:44 PM. |

For the next 6 to 12 months - it still makes sense to have an HD DVD player around as not all of the movies on HD DVD will be ported to Blu-ray that quickly.
Hell $79.99 is what it costs to go out on a Saturday night to the movies for a fam of 4, parking, popcorn, some sodas etc....

Some will not be ported to bluray for years. If you think all of Universals 151 titles will be on bluray by even Dec. 2009 you are nuts.
Have to admit I am all over the $10 hddvd sales. Picked up The Thing and Shaun of the dead at BB and 5 Paramount titles at fry's at that very price. |

That`s incredible. Which the Thing, the original, or the remake with Kurt Russell?
