Kennyt has said the stand alones have better audio & video quality but I'll probably hold out for a profile 2.0 player that will bitstream the lossless formats. I heard the new Sony player that does bitstream & it did sound & look great. |

That is good then. I mean, as far as the PS3 goes, now it has 2.0, SONY continues to raise the bar on it. If, I was buying Blu-Ray today, I don`t know if I would buy a standalone player myself!!

I still would, the PS3 is a great system, and has more features than anything else Blu-ray.
That said mine runs HOT and needs the internal fan to be on almost all the time, I don't really care when I am playing a game, but for subtle movies it might bother me as mine sits on my right side ~4 feet away, I might not notice it as it is pretty quiet, but knowing me, knowing it's there would bother me!

I've never heard the fan on my 60G PS3.
It's in an open rack about 10' away. Mine is on 24/7 running Folding@home which uses more computing power than any game or movie & I have never heard my fan kick on high nor has it ever felt hot. |

I have the 80gb version, perhaps the extra HD space heats up more, but I usually keep it off unless I am playing a game and ZI turned it on the other day and within minutes it was pushing pout hot air. The fan is VERY quiet and I suspect even I wouldn't hear it at even quiet movie listening, but it IS on....
