Need help I'm Clueless>
I am in need of a DVd player. Not sure to go Blue Ray or HD DVD. My TV is HD ready, and I have Direct TV. However, I cannot get the HD signal from Direct TV due to the tall trees in my backyard. QUESTION: Can I still get HD quality w/ an HD DVD or Blue Ray if I do not have the HD signal coming from satelite? Thanks for your help. I'll be back with more stupid questions.

Re: Need help I'm Clueless>
You will get HD quality from either of the disc players (Blu-ray or HD DVD) you still will not get HD from your satellite, each source is independent of the other.

kennyt is correct. You will not receive a HD broadcast signal to watch HD programming for watching TV. However, when you rent or buy a HD DVD disc or Blu-Ray disc(depending on which player you buy) you will get full HD sound and picture for watching movies only.

You need "re-educated" bro. Go here, just enter your email every time (no need for password) and start reading the letters to the editor and tutorials. Soon you will be a pro, but first you need to understand the principles behind ATSC and HD media, i mean this in a friendly and encouraging way:
