I got a great price on this Niles SI-245 2ch amp, and decided to buy it...thinking that I could leverage its power for a great 2-ch setup.

Upon first hookup, I noticed that the volume could only be managed by a set of L/R gains on the front of the unit...not to mention that I must use a screwdriver to adjust these.

IMO, not the most ideal setup. I would like to control the volume via one of my AV receivers (Onkyo 706 or Denon 789), which both have Zone 2 options.

Anybody have experience with these Niles amps, or one like it with similar connectivity options.

Pre amp to amp connection

Hello, this is my first post and I am a low voltage contractor, primarily data, video and voice structured cabling. I came across a commercial audio job, 18 speaker (non dual voice coils) with 9 volume controls (each volume controls 2 speaker).

I am using an 8 channel amp and a 12 channel amp, all speakers are wired in a homerun fashion (each channel in the amp has a +/- going to each volume control, and then each volume control has a +/- going to each speaker). This may sound like a waste of speaker wire, but it has been pulled and connected.

The problem is that the client wants mono played out of each speaker.

The plan I have is to use the current NAD 7020i amp/receiver/tuner (I know, old but good) that he has and use the pre-out to connect to the 2 amps. In essence, I am only using the NAD as a receiver/tuner (bypassing the amps) and using line out to the real amps. Problem is, I need to split the stereo sound into mono to both amps.

I've been told that I can use a stereo to mono cable from the NAD line out, and then split the mono signal into 2 using a y cable to the "L" channel of each amp. The 2 amps have linking capabilities to share the same source with all channels.

Does anyone see a problem with this set up? Thanks for your consideration.

hello everyone,

Here's my setup:

- Pioneer AVIC-D3 deck
- 6.5" Alpine Type-R components up front (SPR-17S)
- Alpine 5.25" Type-R speakers in the rear (SPR-13C)

I am leaning against running a sub, so I want to make sure that my speakers are properly powered. I don't want to spend a lot of money, but I want the speakers to be run to their full potential or close to it for a reasonable price. Not just running off the deck.

To me, a lot of 4 channel amps seem the same or very similar - I'm just looking to max out my setup without going to a sub setup. I'll probably pick something up on eBay or Craigslist in new or lightly used condition. Alpine, JL Audio, etc. preferred.

Suggestions appreciated!

Hi,

I currently have a pair of ATC SCM19s. I'm thinking of getting a pair of ATC SCM40s for Fronts, using my ATC SCM19s for Rears, and getting a pair of ATC SCM11s for backs and then an ATC C3 Centre and C4 Sub to round off a 7.1 system. Would this work or should I really be getting SCM19s for the back or the same speakers (i.e. SCM19s) all round?

I'm thinking of getting a Bryston 6B-SST2 to use with the SCM40s and C3C, a 3B-SST2 for the SCM19s and 2B-SST2 for the SCM11s. Could I get away with the 9B-SST2 for the centre, rears and backs and, say, a 3B-SST2 for the fronts or something? Depending on recommendations on speaker configuration how should these amps be?

I'm also completely open to alternatives on the amps (I am set on the ATC speakers though, particularly as I already have a pair) although the 20 year warranty on the Bryston appeals to me and I can (at least in my mind) pay it off over twenty years (I'm going to roll the cost of the system into my mortgage on a new house). Also note that I'm in Australia and am quite inclined to import everything as the market down under is a dead set rip off!

Thanks in advance,
