Help. Need replacement speakers and decision

I used to have a nice surround system--the POLK RM6200. It was a good bass, nice center speaker RM1600, and four good satellites RM1300. When I sold my house, I left my speakers in the ceiling (purposefully, as the new buyer wanted them). I took the bass and the center channel, as they weren't part of the deal.

I'm stuck in analysis paralysis. My dilemma is that for the past three years, I've only had the center channel and bass hooked into my DENON AVR-3802. It is hard to listen to music or movies with only the bass and the center speaker. I don't intend to get four surround sound speakers set up, as my house is very old and I'm kinda too cheap to chop into the ceiling to run speaker wire across the room for back speakers. So I'm setting my sites on two more speakers to add to the POLK bass and center speaker.

Should I go with two bookshelf speakers to complement the center and base, or stick to getting two satellite speakers? Any recommendations? I'm looking to spend < $300. Are wireless back speakers any good nowadays (obviously they are more expensive than I'm hoping to spend)?

No sound from speakers using 16 guage wire

I have a really good JVC receiver but cheap Realistic speakers. I tried upgrading the speaker wire to 16 guage, but then got no sound at all from the speakers. The JVC manual says, "Caution: speaker impedance 8-16 OHMS." and indicates the front channel output power is "70 watts per channel, min. RMS, both channels driven into 8 ohms at 1kHz..." Is the problem with my speakers? Thank you.

I just joined your organization and am looking forward to the threads! To that end, does anyone out there know of an independent laboratory that can verify claimed specifications for speakers ((Frequency response, Amp power, sensitivity, maximum output, cross over points, etc,. )?

Looking for on-wall speaker ideas

I recently setup a theater in my basement. We have mounted the TV about 40 inches off the floor, so I'm not effectively able to use my floorstanding speakers for proper surround setup. (Also, wife doesn't want floorstanders on riser or anything.)
Was thinking of looking into some on-wall or bookshelf speakers to place on either side of TV (prefer to have on-wall). I have been using the Paradigm monitor series speakers, but would possibly like to upgrade some either with Paradigm or something else.
I'am currently using a Integra DTR 7.7 (100wpc) for power, so I wanted to stay with something that would work with this. Any speaker recommendations you could give would be great! My budget is $1000-$1500. I have looked at the Paradigm Studio Esprit, but dealer did not have any to audition. (my room is 12ft x 22ft)
