Let's put this in perspective. I am glad you asked the question. It sold 8,300,000 copies on dvd in it's first week compared to 190,000 on hddvd. Now you really see how ridiculous the numbers comparison is and how stupid the 1.2:1 sales argument is. 190,000 is peanuts compared to 8,300,000. They are looking at future sales 5 years from now and the cost of manufacturing HDM discs and returning profits to the studio.

You've stated that only Blu does BOGO and the biggest selling HDM of all time is an HD DVD, you said that anyone with an IQ of 50 could figure this much out....yet....both these things are wrong as I've shown -- do you have a rebuttal or do you stand corrected? Perhaps before you make quips about necessary IQ levels, rocket science and idiocy you might want to verify the facts?
The BOGO's I was referring to are at retail locations. I have seen only 1 all year for HDDVD at BB during Xmas week. Bluray BOGO's have gone on left and right BB, CC, etc.

The biggest selling HDM title is Transformers. I guarantee Transformers will sell more copies then 300 on Bluray giving the same amount of sell time. I love how your data is based on sales 5 days after the release of Transformers LOL!!!!! WOW, JUST WOW!!!!! You are the definition BIAS!! I also like how you base your facts on over 2 month old data which is suppossed to be year to date!!! You are a riot!!! I now see why you have been banned from forums in the past. I have yet to be. I wonder which title as of today has sold more copies in HDM, Bluray 300 or Transformers hddvd even with the over 2.5 month lead of 300 to sell more copies. Especially with 2,700,000 players.

As for his view of the Warners situation the other side has the same view. There again is a rumor of the Warners, Toshiba, Microsoft, and Universal meeting yesterday. If Warners is going BD we should have a good idea from Hollywood rumors that come up next week.
PENTON MAN would not post anything of the sort as he PRO Bluray.

No offense guys, but isn’t debating sales numbers and BOGO pretty pointless at this time? At least in context to Warner, which is what this thread is about?

Multiple insiders (with good track records) on both sides have painted a pretty clear picture that Warner is pondering incentive packages from both sides. If true, then it would seem to me that current & past sales are pretty much meaningless. It really doesn’t matter if Harry Potter sold x more copies on y format at this point.

David Vaughn over at HDD wrote something interesting yesterday: “If they were only going with the highest bidder, it would be signed and delivered already. That is the surprising aspect, they are looking at more than just money which is really frustrating to one of the alliances.”

Does David Vaughn really know or is he making educated guesses? I don’t know, take it for what it’s worth, but pretty much all of the insiders (on both sides) are indicating that heavy negotiations are taking place.

Anyway, It looks like it’s going to happen, one side is going to get Warner and one side isn’t. A month ago I would have said “not a chance” but it looks like I was wrong. My personal guess is they will announce exclusivity to one platform later this week, which will give the losing side a few days to prepare their CES presentation without Warner.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, I’m not trying to tell you what you can and can’t talk about on this thread, I just think it’s past that stage already. I think the questions now are: “What will happen to my side if we lose Warner?” and “What will happen to my side if we get Warner exclusive?” Because chances are good that we are all going to be faced with one of those two questions by this time next week.

I want to take a minute to wish everyone on AVREV Forums a prosperous, safe, and wonderful new year. And I really hope that both BD and HD-DVD explode in sales just in time for the next best thing to come about. I want to be on that TRAIN!
