Default Re: Could Warner Bros. Abandon HD DVD in 2008?

If it’s OK, can we get back on subject?

If WB was going to go exclusive one way or another, I would think they would inform the necessary parties involved in advance so they can prepare for the show accordingly, correct? I think it would be highly unethical and unlikely that WB would tell one side they are pulling out the night before the show or even at the show!

So if WB does choose a side, is it possible we could get very strong hints or even an official announcement next week? What do you guys think?

I don't have time to go police your statements through out this thread. You've mentioned on more than one occassion that Amazon doesn't ever seem to equal the actual sales trends. When in fact it does. As the number 2 retailer according to Nielsen they actually are very good at predicting who will win a week. If you look at the top 100 titles of each format and their average sales ranking you will find it will generally be near 2:1 in BD's favor or 3:1. When it is 2:1 the official Videoscan numbers generally name BD a 2:1 winner. When it's 3:1 again they generally name BD a 3:1 winner.

The people who take the format of their choice way too seriously on the HD DVD side love to just point at the top 10 titles of each and their average where HD DVD kind of hangs in there. These people like RDJAM are imho your polar opposite. They're blinded by some kind of devotion to one side.

I don't care who wins I just want someone to win. I'm tired of arguing with you.

You continue to make things personal.

Now you're going to use this thread as a soapbox against your polar opposite RDJAM?

Great. Can you please do this at AVS and not here?

Please? Anywhere but here. Please.

There is a RUMOR, and mind you it's a RUMOR:

That Toshiba, Microsoft, Universal, and Warner execs met yesterday for a big meeting.

It's a rumor.

So I'm sure a lot of you have heard how a Blu-ray exclusive studio is about to start releasing on HD DVD as well, with particular attention paid to Disney and how they've already tested encodes for HD DVD.

The talks of all this started a few weeks ago when the "Campaign HD" website, also known as "HD Now", issued an e-mail to all of its members that stated the following on December 12th:

Quote:
"Our next newsletter is only a few days away, as we are compiling some late-breaking information that appears to be VERY exciting. Look out for it - it's a doozy... Something about a major BD studio going "neutral"
More recently it was followed up with the following:

Quote:
So what's the deal with the BD studio!?
Who's going neutral?

Yes - we've been inundated by emails wanting to know more about the info passed to us about a Bluray-exclusive studio going neutral in January. Unfortunately, we've been unable to confirm the source, so we can't give any further info. Trust me, it's better this way. There are BD posters on the forums trying to say that we've named X or Y studio, but don't believe them, as we have not named any studios.

However, we've been informed by this unverified source that a major BD-only studio will announce support for HD DVD sometime in late January. We've also been given hints by more credible sources that HD DVD is going to have a very big CES in less than two weeks! We are certainly keen to find out more of what is being hinted at - so we'll all be watching CES very closely! Stay tuned!
Now it's well known that rdjam is the person who runs the website and the website is based out of Florida - when you search the website you'll find that rdjam is the contact listed. (Most people know his real name, but I'll leave it out of here right now)

Rdjam has claimed many things online and through the HD Now Propaganda Campaign and recently a lot of what he claims to NOT have said, has been shown to be incorrect - he has pretty much said all of it! Numerous claims last year and throughout this year about how any day now another BD studio is going neutral, yet it continues to not happen.

Here is the post that rebuts a lot of what rdjam has said over the last 16 months.

http://forums.highdefdigest.com/show...&postcount=126

Then rdjam talks about how he cannot reveal the studio that's about to go neutral because he needs to wait for confirmation on the source (which hasn't stopped him from telling everyone that it's happening) when ALL OF A SUDDEN the source revealed themselves and it turned out to be a Blu-ray fan!!!!! Rdjam has been had, he's a shill with very little inside information other than what he's fed by Amir Majidimehr.

Does this stop him from continuing his campaign of FUD? Not in the slightest, but hopefully it will stop you, Constant Reader, from believing so much of the nonsense you read from people all over the internet on how deals are done and studios are all up in the air about what to do, what format to release on, etc., etc., etc., until you actually find someone who is reliable and has shown a track record of being accurate on information.

Here is the priceless e-mail that started all the talk of Disney testing HD51 encodes and getting ready to go neutral - priceless stuff!

Just to give you the heads up. Yes it's happening, but not until Q1 2008.
Being it's the end of the year there's a budget moratorium in place and no
big changes are happening until January. Toshiba has provided to techs a
TL51 implementation working across all players going back to the first
generation. There was some resistance at the executive level (Jobs, Sony)
but the votes are in and it's a go ahead for the move. Your source is wrong
on the timing.

I'm risking a lot writing you, but I appreciate the work you've done for
HD-DVD over the last couple years. We really believe it's the better format
for consumers and I believe this move will end the unfortunate format war before mid-year.

Happy Holidays,

"Mark"
Here is the BD poster that posted the e-mail - http://forums.highdefdigest.com/show...842#post568842

Anyway now rdjam is claiming that a studio will go neutral by the end of Q1/08

Keep watching, because as March 31st, 2008 approaches, that prediction will be extended.

That sounds to me like someone making up a new forum name to "troll & bash" someone without getting themselves in trouble since they had been warned against doing that.
I still don't see it as a bash. The guy pointed to what he thought was a quote from dobyblue. We don't really know his motivation.

However since you're implying it was me I sure hope Andrew can look at the IP adresses and let you guys know it wasn't me.

That's just petty behavior and not something I would ever do.

Planet Earth HD DVD was the #1 HDM title on Amazon for weeks and weeks leading up to Christmas and not once was it the #1 selling HDM title.

Case closed.

As for the rdjam debacle, it is very closely related to what YOU'RE saying Disney has done and really, if one were to look with even a slightly discerning eye, would show that perhaps your misinformation on what Disney has been doing has come from the same source.

Wouldn't you agree?
