SACD has been around what 9 years? It has less than 1% of the market. That is a NICHE.

I don't believe that either next gen format is going to be a Niche market. Current Market Growth trends show that within 3 years both should have around 10% of the market. That is far beyond SACD.

Yup, just like what they predicted for SACD, but lack of consumer interest thanks to a format war never allowed either SACD or DVD-Audio to take off. Sound familiar?

Stockholders are EXTREMELY interested in how Disney plans on countering the lost DVD revenue. If there is a next gen format with 1M standalone players vs <500K on the side they're currently backing you are going to get upset stockholders. I've been at these meetings and you have obviously not been. It is brought up every year.

Sure you've been at these meetings. Which format has close to 1 million standalones? It's not HD DVD that much is for sure, they're around 600,000 right now. There are also millions of PS3's on the market, which is why there are so much more Blu-ray discs sold on a weekly basis than HD DVD. Disney aren't going anywhere.

HD DVD is gaining momentum and they are about to release discs that eliminate the needed space advantage.

Oh do tell, when will we get the first HD51 release announcement? According to Kosty and rdjam (I'm sure you know them or are a sock puppet for one of them) it should have been announced already. Will it be CES 2008?

Warners has invested interest in HD DVD. Now HD DVD is selling well for them. Why on earth would they abandon it when they make more money from it?

They make more money from Blu-ray - over 100,000 more copies of "300" sold on Blu.
Blu-ray is selliing better for them and they are also one of the 17 patent holders in Blu-ray, so they also have a vested interest in Blu-ray. Moreso than either of these things, they have a vested interest in one format succeeding and the one with all the momentum is Blu.
