I'm building a raised platform for second row seating in my home theater, from what i've read on the subject i should fill it with sand! but i thought if i port the openings and fill with acustic insulation i can make it serve as a bass trap.. so my question is will it work?

It may work although bass traps are usually up in the corners of a room.

my main concern is I dont want to hurt the aucoustics of the room by leaving it hollow, and i dont want to fill it with sand! so will this help with the lows and whole room in general?
