Blu-ray To Offer Summer Promotion – 5 Free Titles With Blu-ray Player Purchase

Seven of the major Hollywood studios and six top consumer electronics manufacturers today announced the launch of the Blu-ray Disc Promotion, a summer-long promotional program intended to encourage customers to experience the high-definition experience that Blu-ray provides. The promotion gives consumers the opportunity to jump-start their high-definition library by receiving five free Blu-ray Discs from a list of over 20 of the most popular titles offered by participating studios when they purchase qualifying Blu-ray players between July 1 and September 30, 2007.

Participating studios include Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Lionsgate Home Entertainment, MGM Home Entertainment, Paramount Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Warner Home Video. Hardware manufacturers include Panasonic Consumer Electronics, Phillips Electronics, Pioneer, Samsung, Sony Electronics and Sony Computer Entertainment.

Consumers who purchase any one of the many qualifying Blu-ray players from participating hardware companies will be able to select five of the following Blu-ray titles, which include new releases and fan favorites. Among the 21 titles in this mail-in offer are: Babel, Black Rain, Blazing Saddles, Chicken Little, The Corpse Bride, The Devil's Rejects, The Guardian, Hart's War, Invincible, The Italian Job, Kiss of the Dragon, The Last Waltz, The Omen [2006], Pearl Harbor, The Phantom of the Opera, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Species, Stealth, Stir of Echoes, The Transporter 2 and Underworld: Evolution.

The offer has been extended to Canadians as well, but for some reason Quebec is excluded. I'd like to know why though. It's not a contest.

FWIW I just bought my third Blu-ray player, this promo encouraged me to do this given the free 5 discs and the cheap availability of the players on-line.

It's a nice promotion, but as much as I look forward to purchasing a Blu- Ray player inthe near future, there isn't one title on that list that I have any desire to own.

Free discs are a good idea but they must be tempting.

The idea of The Fifth Element was good on paper but it is a crappy Blu-ray title. I didn't love Ricky Bobby either as a demo.

I agree 100%. Had there been titles in there of interest I may very well have gone out a bought a Blu-Ray player this month. Since there is nothing of interest to me, buying it can wait a month or two. I was also disappointed that there were no titles that will be appealing or appropriate for my 9 year old nephew, because buying him his PS3 in August will qualify for the promotion.
