Dolby Labs has made agreements to supply 3-D projection systems to more than 350 venus across Europe, Asia, and America. Finished installation of these systems is expected to be completed in time for the release of Warner's "Journey to the Center of the Earth" late this summer.
The 3-D market is lead by Real D. However, Dolby is gaining popularity, especially in Europe, due to the inexpensive installation in comaprison with Real D. Real D requires a high-priced silver screen for each of their systems, where as Dolby does not. Also, Real D is based on a royalty system, in which it receives a percentage of the ticket sales. Dolby however sells its systems outright. |
