DirecTV Begins HD Channel Ramp-Up with 11 New HBO HD Channels

Slowly, DirecTV is revealing all of the channels that will make up the first wave of expanded HDTV offerings it will deliver this September, following the launch of the DirecTV 10 satellite in July.

This week, the satellite provider said the new 1080i offerings will include a total of 11 HD feeds of HBO and Cinemax channels.

In addition to the HBO (East) HD channel it currently offers, DirecTV will launch the following full-time HD channels: HBO West, HBO2 West, HBO2 East, HBO Family East, HBO Family West, HBO Latino, HBO Signature, Cinemax East, Cinemax West and MoreMax.

The channels will be among the HD channels the satellite service plans to have when it throws the switch on its HD ramp-up starting in September and continuing "through the rest of the year," the company said.

The satellite TV company will continue to add channels in 2008 for a total of 150 national cable channels, up to 1,500 local HD channels and new advanced programming services, following the launch of the DirecTV 11.

DirecTV currently carries each of the HBO channels slated for HD in standard definition.
