Default AVRev.com, ModernHomeTheater.com and AVRevForum.com Sold to Internet Brands

AVRev.com, the largest audited home theater publication, along with its sister sites ModernHomeTheater.com and AVRevForum.com announced today that the properties have been sold to El Segundo, California based Internet Brands. Internet Brands, the owner of over 60 enthusiast web properties including CarsDirect.com and DVDTalk.com, also recently announced the purchase of HighDefDigest.com and HighDefForum.com to round out their new consumer electronics publication portfolio.

"Internet Brands offers AVRev.com and its associated sites the chance to grow in meaningful ways we simply couldn't on our own," stated AVRev.com founder, Jerry Del Colliano. "The power of their network will drastically increase the reach and impact of the properties thus allowing us to promote the best of the world of home theater and audiophile hardware and software to more people."

All of the AVRev.com sites will continue to be published by Jerry Del Colliano. Andrew Robinson and Ken Taraszka have agreed to remain on as Managing Editor and Associate editor respectively. The internal support staff also will remain, leaving the overall publication's operation fully intact post acquisition. Financial terms were not disclosed.

I'm guessing this will mean you will have a lot more resources to draw from which means this will be good for everyone.

The power of a bigger company is hard to deny. We tried unsuccessfully to buy other AV sites to grow and were leaving money on the table (like a BIG, signed IO from Sony in Q42007) which is just crazy.

Some of our competition like HomeTheaterMag.com get help from POWERFUL sites like Automobile.com and others. Now we have that kind of muscle.

Beyond that everything pretty much stays the same.

On behalf of Internet Brands, I just wanted to say that we’re happy to have AVRev.com join the Travel and Leisure group here at IB.

We’re committed to keeping AVRev.com the same great site it’s always been while leveraging some of our strengths – powerful servers and broad experience in site administration – to keep it growing.

I’ve listed some FAQs concerning the acquisition below.

Please consider me a contact to Internet Brands.
Glad to be here!
Justine

FAQ’s

Q: Why did Internet Brands buy AVRev.com?
A: Internet Brands’ mission is to help consumers plan important purchases and discuss areas of interest to them. AVRev.com’s users offer outstanding advice and support for people involved with audio-visual electronics products of all kinds.

Q: Will AVRev.com become part of another Internet Brand site?
A: No, Internet Brands plans to keep it a separate, thriving site operating as it does today.

Q: What changes can we expect to see on AVRev.com?
A: For the most part, the site will remain essentially unchanged. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The main change in the coming months will be that Internet Brands migrating the site to more powerful computers. Beyond that, Internet Brands plans to brainstorm with the moderators of AVRev.com about improvements that would make the site even better.

Q: Will my log-in or password change?
A: No you will still access AVRev.com as you always have.

Dear readers,

As you know doubt have read AVRev.com has, in fact, been sold to Internet Brands. While this may come as a shock to some of you, rest assured the AVRev.com you've come to know and love over the years is intact. This is not the big bad coorporate take over we've all seen examples of else where in the business world. As Justine mentioned above, the main reason behind the acquisition of AVRev.com was not to change it but to enhance it. To make it better, stronger, faster.

As the Managing Editor it is important that you understand that I am committed to keeping the legacy of this great publication intact. That means the same great content month after month about the products you love and lust after. The editorial staff at AVRev.com will not be changing nor will our unique approach and overall vibe towards this industry.

I hope you all stick around because we're just getting warmed up...

Well said Andrew.

In the next few days, we will start posting our quick reviews which will add 100's of shorter reviews to our 60 review per year editorial model.

We have 30 HDTVs and will post 10 media center PCs next month. Remotes after that. We have a bunch of top video screens and some audiophile stuff being posted.

Just on an editorial level - AVRev.com will be a FAR DEEPER site than it has been historically. As Andrew says - we are just getting warmed up!!!!
