Netflix to Stop Renting Movies on HD DVD Format

The people running the HD-DVD side of things for Toshiba should be fired if they are really trying to stay in this "war."

While they are out trying to convince certain Studios:

Sony realized they couldn't get Universal or Paramount to announce the "war ender," of an announcement.

So they went and offered two massive deals to: Net Flix, and Best Buy.

They already have BlockBuster in an exclusive deal.

Net Flix made the decision because the offer of reduced cost was more than the money they made from HD-DVD renters. Best Buy on the other hand loved the big check.

How do they have to buy each movie in 3 different formats when there are no neutral studios? Basically, they just won't have Paramount, Dreamworks, and Universal titles in HD unless they go Blu.

Head scratcher for sure, unless you look at last week's interview where they said they might have to raise prices for HDM if there was one winner. Now I get it.

But his arguments make sense. Why would both companies announce on the same day, the beginning of February nonetheless? Something smells rotten here.

The Blockbuster / Target payoff of last summer is strikingly similar.

It makes even more sense that they see Toshiba has done nothing substantial to reverse the sinking fortunes of hd-dvd & decided to get out now instead of stretch it out longer.

They know one format is better for everyone & it appears they are sending Toshiba a signal.
