Considering Paramount & Universal had zero significant releases in January, I seriously doubt those figures mean that much to them. In fact, Paramount just announced Sweeny Todd for an April 1st HD DVD release.

So, with no new releases and no significant positive news, HD DVD has gained market share for two straight weeks? Seems someone didn't get the memo that the war was over.

Not that I think these numbers are good for HD DVD by any means. I just find it amusing that Blu-ray supporters post them everywhere every week when we know there has been nothing that should be turning the current tide. Do you really think Paramount and Universal are expecting 60:40 next week? Seriously?

Software sales are so incredibly low right now on both sides it's quite comical. To me the most interesting statistic is that "since inception," ratio hasn't changed. That means that the software just isn't selling right now at all on either side. HD-DVD is dead in software sales right now though.

Clearly sales have a long way to go for HD media.

However, at this moment in "HD disc" lifecycle (both formats combined sales), HD media is producing higher sales than DVD produced at this same phase in it's own life-cycle.

In other words, side-by-side with DVD's growth curve, HD media is actually doing better.

That's a good sign of things to come for the future, given the tremendous sales increases we saw with DVD as time went by (even if HDM never reaches the same sales level, it has a lot further to go).

Why is it doing better? Answer the format war.

All I have seen now is no more BOGO, no more 5 free titles with a new bluray player, Only 1 1.1 compliant SAP on the market, no 2.0 players till fall, a $100 increase in SAP and the 80 gb PS3 about to disappear and be replaced with the 120gb model for $100 more. In other words the BDA is in arrogance mode again after the Warner announcement and with streamable hd content right around the corner.

One format is responsible for HDM being ahead of dvd in the same time frame it isn't bluray. In software only, todays bluray content has done a 180 in terms of PQ and extras thanks to stiff competetion from hddvd. Good riddance to MPEG-2 and excellent job Sony with not jipping us out of extras from the dvd. Following Paramounts lead with 2 disc sets and all extras in HD the other studios are taking note, except Fox of course. Bluray players are still a mess.
