Universal and Paramount may be about to quit releasing....
DVDs! Toshiba's next step is making all future releases by those studios.... combo discs. It's an interesting move. It would make all purchases from those Studios usable in HD-DVD players. Giving buyers of DVD a clear path towards which HDM to choose. It's also a path BD can't follow. |

The Bourne Ultimatum DVD did 5.4 million units in the first 6 days, pretty much the combined total of all HD DVDs & Blu-ray movies sold so far.
A move like this would end Blu-ray within 6 months in my opinion. They could never compete with the millions of HD DVD discs being sold each week. And for people that have purchased 4 or 5 DVDs that are HD DVD capable, a $150 HD DVD player is an easy purchase. Last edited by 1more4HDDVD; 01-15-2008 at 02:24 PM.. |

It appears the first real attempt at combo only was pretty successful:
“HD DVD [combo] release of Star Trek: Season One, will reach 100,000 units sold. That momentum has led the company to commit to releasing all subsequent Star Trek seasons on high-def, amounting to two more HD DVD titles.” http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6517163.html Last edited by 1more4HDDVD; 01-15-2008 at 03:44 PM.. |
