No, a multi-million dollar check could attract a studio. However, low priced players that are selling will make it easier for that studio to sign on the dotted line.

My point is spend a little more even if you have to save for an extra month or two and get a player that might just have new software available longer than a few months or a year. I can not honestly direct anyone I know to buy one of these players knowing that the format's time is near the end. I have both a tosh hd dvd player and a panny bd player, I hate to see hd dvd die out but one format would be better for all, imo.
The documentation on the 1200 is well saturated on the net - doesn't play all disc. This war may only be begining - not with just HD-DVD (first wave) but discless playback being the ultimate in security. One format - streamed content with you only having the license to playback - the way the studios really want it.

prerich,

I have a Samsung 1200, and it plays every disc I own and I have had all the noted problems on it, FFROTSS, Spidy 3, Pirates (the adult title and the Johnny Depp films) and all played. They did require progressive firmware updates, but the player has never failed to play a disc for me.

Just my 0.02 but it is a pretty extensive list of torture tests mine past!

Maybe they should throw in an old Sony Betamax player for the $150. That would really sweeten the pot!

Consider yourself blessed and intelligent (you did the necessary firmware updates - were these by download over the net or by a disc that you had to burn or order? Oh I forgot, Blu (with the exception of PS3) can't do the net thing until profile 2.0 comes out . But seriously did you order your disc or did you burn them yourself?
