It'll be very telling if Onkyo comes out with a Blu-Ray only player. Can HD-DVD survive with only Toshiba making consumer models of HD-DVD players? The Meridian will obviously be a high end piece if it ever makes it to market. |

They are supposed to hit shelves next week...
These are made by Toshiba and are just the XA2 rebadged. They may have decided to not sell them in Europe, but Onkyo is releasing them here. |

How much did that cost Toshiba to put Onkyo's name on one of their players? |

They got the XA2 and made some minor adjustments but noticable improvements. I hear the redbook playback on them is better for instance. So yeah it's pretty much just a rebadged XA2 but they did do some adjustments (unlike the RCA unit). Seeing as how Onkyo does this with the majority of their DVD players I don't see any real need to complain. In fact some mid fi brands like NAD and others just take a Pioneer unit rebadge it and make slight adjustments. That hasn't hurt their sales. |

Interesting.....
I sort of wondered if the super low pricing would limit others from making these players, but never really voiced it. Toshiba might need to dump $$ at the hardware as well as software folks soon....
