Tecnofuturo, Italian distributor of Onkyo products, has called us this morning to tell us that the Japanese brand has not stopped the production of reader HD DVD DV-HD805 and that starting from January / early February 2008, the reader will again be available in stores. The news had reported that there was the result of a misunderstanding linked to the first delivery extremely contingentata the player and now it remains to be understood if the reader will remain identical to the model Toshiba HD-XE1 or / and will be repositioning price after the Christmas holidays.

Yeah we were told the player will likely be priced around $600 sometime soon.

It didn't make much sense that they would drop it. Between their player and the Integra (their boutique brand) they are the only "mid fi," or high end players on the market.

The model isn't identical to the XA2. It is tweaked. I havent had time to sit down with one yet though.

Also I emailed Meridian as well... and was told "players," are still being developed but they again haven't made any firm decisions.

If you're able to confirm (or test directly) exactly what the modifications are and how they affect performance we'd love to hear.
