Mixing interconnects

Is is ok to mix interconnects? i.e. Cardas xlr's, audioquest xlr's and etc? I'm in the process of building up m HT system and was wondering if it was ok to do so. Should I stick with one brand?

It OK to do if you need to but when you see programs from the likes of Transparent where they will let you trade in your old stuff to get a complete Transparent system - it starts to make sense to use all one brand.

To me - all cables have a "sound" to them thus your system gets better when you can match that sound in your audio chain.

For example: you might plug in your HD DVD player's 5.1 input with Cardas but use Kimber for the amp to preamp and speaker connections. I see nothing wrong with that.

that was my next question. thank you for answering it. I'm off to order my cc-690 and some speaker cables for my cousins new Studio 20's that I got him for xmas.

I don't think most people have every interconnect and speaker cable the same brand.
Usually because most of us have been collecting over years, adding a little at time.
Unless you get involved in an upgrade program like Jerry said, you will most likely end up having multiple brands in your system.

I have lots of transparent, some AQ, and few others.

Back when I decided to bi-amp, Cardas was the only one making decent balanced Y cables, so I am still using them with my transparent interconnects.

Should I get active shielding or nonactive shielding? is active shielding BS?
