I have a set of Mirage M3si's that have an excessive length of the fat high dollar speaker cable hooked to them. I was wondering if I should shorten them since 1. I don't need the length and 2. It is just a longer distance for the signal to be sent?

I would consider trading up to a shorter, higher quality cable. Most dealers have a trade-in program. I would not cut them if they are factory terminated.

Most cables can be reterminated, contact the manufacturer to see if it is worth it, otherwise the trade in option is always a good one. You can also sell them on Audiogon.com and buy something closer to your needs there.

This is a quote from the guys at Mapleshade records.
• NEVER use speaker cables shorter than 8'. Amazingly, 4' sounds much worse than 8'. Contrary to common belief, shorter interconnects (2 m or less) and longer speaker cables sound WAY BETTER than the opposite—based on extensive head-to-head tests. I have seen Mapleshade recordings reviewed in various publications but it was only recently that I visited their website. To say that some of their recommendations for audio tweaks are unusual is an understatement. If you visit their site I would be curious to hear opinions about some of the recommendations made there. |

I found it: http://www.mapleshaderecords.com/aud...eaudiotips.php
HA HA . . . I am surprised they don't sell the $50 Sharpie to improve your CD's sound. . . |

Lol!.... Mapleshade. I have some of Mapleshdes recordings and although some of their recording techniques are, shall we say, unorthodox, they sound pretty good in a different sort of way. I'm particularly amused by the way Mapleshade listens to blocks of wood (platforms).
