First Blu-ray music album released!

I was lucky enough to have Kal Rubinstein (of Stereophile Magazine) here, yesterday, with this disc.

I fully endorse this type of disc because it bridges the multi-format issues. Maybe in a way that DVD-A and SACD just never did. Why? I have yet to figure it out.

But this disc is a real winner, with fairly decent performances, and some convincing HD Sonics.

More power to you, and where are the other record labels with some great titles?

PS - My only real gripe is that you must turn on a monitor in order to select what version of the sound you would like to play. An audio only set of controls (like SACD) would be welcome so as not to waist a lot of time getting to the good stiff!

You don't know how long I have waited for Sony (or anyone) to come up with a better distribution plan.

SACD could have been a total success - I still receive regular review samples.

But now, BluRay has opened the door for completely Linear PCM on 8-channels. And any of their films produced in this 8-channel LPCM format have been astounding!

And yes, I agree that BluRay LPCM is significantly better sounding than SACD, and in some ways DVD-A.

Now - who among the myriad high end record companies will pony up with some titles?

Telarc, Reference, Chesky . . . are you listening???

...just an aside, I always was more behind SACD than DVD-A, though the best sound depended on so many things outside of hardware that I am still torn as to which was/is best, and in many ways, I think they both were best on some discs!

Pity, as with HD discs, why couldn't a common format be agreed upon?

Even now, every SACD will play, but certain DVD-A are recognized as DVD-V and won't always play. Sad :-(
