I just watched Blade Runner on Bluray last night and it is absolutely incredible. The Blade Runner disk is nothing short of a revelation. It's not just the picture, but the Dolby TrueHD sound track as well. There are surround effects that are new to this addition, but sound like they were there the whole time. Both the picture and sound are crystal clear.
There is an article in the Jan 2008 S&V magazine that talks about the Blade Runner restoration, and gives some insight into the Warner Bros. process of restoring the origional tapes. Maybe I should be a little more understanding when a movie's release date is missed, because there is a lot more going on than meets the eye if the restoration process is done right. Boy, I sure do wish all production companies would take this kind of care when restoring older movies to Bluray (or HD-DVD).
Just when you get little frustrated with having to replace your players with the next gen players and buy a new receiver that decodes the new fromats, a movie experience come along that gets you all jacked up again.
Watching Blade Runner on Bluray was that kind of experience for me.
