Maybe I'm crazy or am missing something but last night I was watching Resident Evil Extinction on Blu-ray and a little over an hour into the film the image paused then the film resumed similar to when watching a standard DVD that is over two hours in length. I thought because of the higher capacity of these next gen formats this sort of "delay" would be avoided. To further annoy me, because of all the copy protection and other miscellaneous BS that comes with the high def formats the image didn't just pause but went black, cycled through my projector's HDMI input menu before resuming. I ejected the disc (which I had purchased just less than two hours earlier) and there was not a mark on it. I chaptered ahead to the scene and sure enough it did it again. Am I missing something?
I don't want to sound biased but I have yet to run across an HD DVD that does this. I played another Blu-ray disc, Surfs Up, and encountered the same thing. It's bad enough the menus take FOREVER to load (seriously I made a sandwich while I was waiting for Resident Evil) but skipping too!? Please tell me I'm missing something here and that it's user error or something.

I had no problems with Surf's Up, haven't yet rented (won't buy) RE Extinction.
I do feel your pain with the waiting to load menus! Ironically, my PS3 doesn't take nearly as long as my stand alone players to load these! Which player are you using? Still the Sony BDP-S1? If so, mine works fine with Surfs up, have you put the new firmware into it? I think they are up to something like 3.6 now....

I'm still rocking the BDP-S1 with the absolute latest firmware. Since my first firmware updated killed my original player Sony had to do it to a player at the factory then ship it to me. This is my third BDP-S1. My other Sony Blu-ray player the S300 has similar troubles. It's annoying. The Surfs Up skip wasn't nearly as bad as Resident Evil, almost unnoticeable but RE threw me for a loop. I bought RE for review material...

I'm getting ready to watch RE Extinction (I bought the trilogy in Blu-Ray
!), I'll let you know if I see the same thing on my PS3.I can tell you I haven't seen that on any of my previous Blu-Ray movies. What chapter or scene did this happen? |

Very odd, indeed. It happened twice to me last night. I too have tried again and now nothing. Me thinks it might be the player. I'll just have to monitor it. I played Casino Royal for a bit and nothing. Same with all my other Blu-ray favs. Threw in RE and went to the scene where it happened, right around the time that Milla meets the computer generated little girl, and it played it without incident. Don't know what to say other than must have been one of those things. Sorry for the goose chase. Thanks for trying it on your system Moose.
I've noticed it before (not every time) but last night's viewing was the worst. Just one of those things. I'll let you guys know if it pops up again. For now all seems to be well again. How about that...Blu-ray, the format that fixes itself. ![]()
