Sony BDP-S500 vs. Toshiba XA2

Which player upscales SD-DVDs to 1080i best, the new Sony BDP-S500 or the Toshiba XA2? I have a calibrated Mits 65857 CRT RPTV and a huge collection of SD-DVDs. I'm not planning on upgrading my display anytime soon so the capability and issues surrounding 1080p60 and 1080p24 are of no concern to me except to the extent they may impact SD-DVD upscaling. I'm format neutral.

I haven't gotten a BDP-S500 yet, but I have the XA2 and can say it is better than my uber high end DVD players for 1080p scaling. Better than my Sony BDP-S1 too.

In fact, to my eyes it is the best 1080p scaling player I have seen.

So kenny, I`m still trying to decide between the 35 and A20, but you seem to prefer the XA2. Is that right? I also have a DVD collection too. Would the XA2 outperform these new Toshiba players?

I haven't tried the A35 yet, but I believe the XA2 has better chips in it than the A20, so between the two, I'd go A35 vs XA2

Alright, cool. So I`ll have a player that upconverts SD-DVDs well, 1080p, web enabled services, and a great picture. Sounds good.

The XA2 uses the Reon chip for upconversion. It is much better than the A20. I have not read what the A35 uses.
