Default What are the main differences between Blu-ray players?

I've always been curious - what is the main difference between all the Bluray players out there? I've noticed that they players can range from $200-400 .. what are the big differences? What makes 1-2 hundred dollars better than another?

Cost
# The difference between Blu-ray and HD DVD players was once huge when it comes to cost. Blu-ray players were mostly in the $800 range, while you could find HD DVD players for less than $200. Since Blu-ray is the sole format supported by manufacturers, the price is likely to fall.
Storage
# Because Blu-ray uses superior compression methods, it can fit even a long movie on one disc, while an HD DVD could require two discs. Blu-ray offers double and triple the storage of HD DVDs.
Video Performance
# Some experts argue that HD DVD offers a slightly better video quality, while others say it's a draw. The average viewer will probably not see any difference between Blu-ray and HD DVDs when it comes to video performance.
Audio Performance
# Although the audio quality for HD DVDs is good, you can expect a better sound experience from Blu-ray. This is due to stronger support for Blu-ray's high-resolution audio formats.
Availability
# The list of available titles for Blu-ray is much larger than for HD DVD, since Blu-ray has won out. Few, if any, newer movies are released for HD DVD. Most movies are released in Blu-ray.

Smile Re: What are the main differences between Blu-ray players?

The main difference is the color of the laser used. Regular DVD players have used the traditional red laser, whereas the new Blu-Ray DVD players use an innovative blue laser. So what's the big deal? The primary difference is that blue light has a shorter wavelength than red light and thus allows the capability of faster speeds, more data storage, advances in miniaturization, and improved efficiency overall, among others.

The blue laser light is emitted by GaN semiconductors, which are very expensive to produce and extremely rare.

The first blue laser was produced by Dr. Shuji Nakamura in late 1999 in Nichia Chemical Corporation Laboratories.

Question Re: What are the main differences between Blu-ray players?

Since the Blu-Ray players of today play regular DVD'S and Blu-Ray Discs, does this mean it has both the blue and the red laser in the video player.
