It seems that the OPPO BDP-93 Blu-Ray player is scheduled to be released in December of this year.Supposed to be the same price as the BDP-83.Supports 3-D,has bitstream capacity and additional features.Sounds great to me.

Blu-Ray has a very large storage capacity and producers of content are encoded videos with a very high performance and a resolution of 1080p. That means more data and less video compression quality is as close to the first source sequence.

Does the OPPO BDP 83 or BDP 93 really give that much of a boost to regular DVD'S.I realize that it depends on many factors.Such as the source, transfer etc.I am mostly interested in TV series since there is not much chance the TV seeries will be reissued in BLU-RAY,and even if they were, there would be no guarantee the studios would release a much improved product.Older TV series in particular.

The main difference is the color of the laser used. Regular DVD players have used the traditional red laser, whereas the new Blu-Ray DVD players use an innovative blue laser. So what's the big deal? The primary difference is that blue light has a shorter wavelength than red light and thus allows the capability of faster speeds, more data storage, advances in miniaturization, and improved efficiency overall, among others.

The main difference in BR players is there ability to properly diecode standard DVD formats. Good BR players can handle standard DVD with perfection. Bad BR players can not. If you don't care about standard DVD performance, buy a cheap BR player. If you still want great standard DVD playback, buy an upper end Denon or Oppo Digital.

If Blu-Ray has a shorter wavelenght beam than red laser DVD players,is it more sensitive tol DVD defects such as scratches, etc, therefore be more inclined to freeze or skip while playing under such conditions.
