Default First HDTV 1080P. Which BRay Player to buy

Do any play DVD-Audio and/or SACD. Probably not. I know. But I'm excited just to get Hi Def.

I need an affordable player. Any opinions?

The guys that run this forum are at CEDIA this week & I'm sure there will be a lot of new players shown there, I bet they will have some suggestions for you when they get back.

That depends on what you need. The best deal right now on a BD player, in my opinion, is the Panasonic DMP-BD30 Blu-ray Player. The last time I was in Costco it was priced at $359 with an instant rebate of $60, making it only $299. (They are liquidating back stock of these to make room for the new DMP-BD35.) Bear in mind that you will need a receiver that decodes the HD audio formats, since this one only bitstreams them.
Although more expensive, you might also consider the new Samsung BD-P2500 (not to be confused with the BD-P2550) which reportedly decodes all audio formats, and uses the Silicon Optix HQV video processing chip for superior playback of regular DVDs. I would stay away from Sony for now, at least until their new Sony BDP-S550 is released and reviewed. Just my $.02. Let us know what you decide.
