Movie Server
I am looking to buy or better build a movie server, I have looked at Kaleidescape it is very nice but so expensive $17K-35K!!! I like the new Escient that is only $10K but I have a hard time paying tens of thousands of $ for hard drives. Kaleidescape new 1T hard drive ($1,250) just for the cartridge (Wester digital 1T drive is $300)

I was thinking

Mac Mini ($700) with 5 tera bytes of hard drive ($1500) but there is no good software to rip DVDs on a mac so I might have to look at PCs!!

Any suggestions

Re: Movie Server
MacTheRipper works pretty good. I don't think it will rip dts audio though.

Re: Movie Server
I understand MacThe Riper it is very spotty and is inconsistent! Not all DVDs can be copied onto hard drive! I wished Apple was able to do what Kaleidescape can do and allow you to copy your own DVDs on your network, just like music with Itune!
