My understanding is that Joe Kane had a hand in the design of Samsung's latest Blu-ray player and that it has the best playback quality of anything on the market at this point. A fellow ISF technician and close friend of both Joe's and I , Jim Doolittle, has confirmed this. I will be getting one shortly, and will report back to you on this thread.

Kevin/Jerry,
Got mine, I am having an issue with it that might necessitate it's return. I have to work out the firmware update to see if it resolves it but am way to busy today to do it now. Currently mine does NOT output 1080p/24, which my Sony BDP-S1 does. When connected to my Sony KDS 70XBR2 display, they are pretty close, but I have to update the firmware before I can truly comment. I do like how the unit functions. It is closer to a 'standard' DVD player than any I've tried so far meaning it powers up and loads quickly and responds pretty well to commands. Anyone want a BDP-1000??

Firmware update done, no change. The player will need to go back for repair. It seems everytime I boot it up I get this overpowering purple screen instead of the blue, when I go to the display settings in the menu and switch them from TV to Monitor of vice versa, it fixes the glitch every time, but it's an annoying thing to do EACH time you power up and I am sure I couldn't get the wife to do it!

That is a MAJOR bummer.
My Samsung BDP1 took a firmware upgrade and simply crapped out. Deader than a doornail. The distributor took it back and gave me the Panasonic which was REALLY cool of them.
