EA bets PS3 will best Xbox 360 sales in 2008

Hold onto your lunch, we're looking at quite the turnaround in fortunes for the PS3 if EA's sales predictions for 2008 hold true. With a hot new SKU on the shelves, an unlikely Halo killer, strong market share in Europe and that profitability milestone crossed, the PS3 is looking at its best shot at greatness since it landed. At least EA and Sony seem to think so. Sony has been naturally bullish about its latest "10 year life cycle" console, but now EA is jumping on board, predicting the box will sell between 9.5 million and 11.5 million units this year, compared to 6 million to 8 million for Microsoft's Xbox 360.

Wow Engadget sure can spin spin spin!

The unlikely Halo Killer turned out to infact not be plus the game sold better on the 360 than on the PS3. A "Halo Killer," would be a title exclusive to the PS3 that outsold Halo 3 not COD4 which sold more on the 360.

Then they again refer to the "profitible," nonsense about the PS3 which I can guarantee you is off based and entirely not true. They lose around $80 for the $400 unit. Which we won't be able to verify until next quarter's release info.

However things will remain the same here in the states with the 360 outselling the PS3 by around 2:1 according to EA's prediction.

I wonder why EA is predicting such a week year and regression for the 360? ME2 is going to be announced at E3 for a November release, you have Fable 2, and many more exlcusive titles that just hold more interest than all but MGS4.

Sony lowers 11 million PS3s sales prediction

Sony has announced it has cut its PlayStation 3 sales target for the year to March 2008 to 9.5 million units from their predicted figure of 11 million.

This climb-down on the sales figures is in strong contrast to their stance at the Tokyo Games Show last September.

Sony Computer Entertainment president Kazuo Hirai said, in his keynote speech at the event, that he believed the company would achieve its predicted sales target of selling 11 million units before the end of the fiscal year in March.

Well you need to remember this is not coming from Sony but EA.
EA crunches their own numbers so they know how many games to ship for each console by how many consoles are out there.

From what I've heard they said the PS3 will beat the 360 in Europe & they will tie in the U.S.

As for the Halo killer that could be Metal Gear Solid 4 & Gran Turismo 5 will be a huge seller.
We'll get an idea just how big GT5 will be when the U.S. version of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is released in April
