Looking For Blu Ray player purchase advice

I am also looking for a good blue ray player. I am looking in the $500 range. I had a Samsung BD-UP5000 combo player on order until I heard the announcements at CES. I have since canceled the order. I have a large DVD collection so I am looking for a player that has good upscaling.
I currrently have a Toshiba HDTV that is a few years old. It has a DVI connection, not an HDMI. I was wondering if anyone knew if there is an adapter cable that will split the audio and video so that I can use the HDMI out on a player and split to a DVI video connector and analog audio connector on my TV.
I currently use the component video out and analog video out on my DVD player and run those to the TV and run the digital audio out from the DVD player to my receiver.
When I buy a Blue ray player I would like to use the upscaling feature on my DVD's( I have a large collectrion), but I understand that the Blu-ray players will not upconvert through the component output.
I would appreciate any input. If anyone knows of a good Blu-rau player in the $500 range that has good upconversion I would appreciate it.

Cliff,

You could run the analog outputs of the player to your TV just as you do with your DVD player, I don't know of any adaptors that strip off analog from the HDMI (that would require a DAC) but there are some HMDI switchers that pull off the digital, which you could then feed to your receiver, and use it's analog outputs.

Steve. I am a distributor for consumer electronics. Our best selling Blu-Ray's are Sony BDPS300 a nd the BDPS500. The 500 has 1.3 HDMI and Dolby True HD and DTS-HD where the 300 version does not. If you want to go high end, I suggest the Pioneer BDP95FD.

Best selling doesn't mean best product in picture, sound, and reliability. With the exception of the PS3 I haven't heard to many good things about any of the Sony Blu-Ray players. From what I've been hearing they have been very problematic and won't play many of the titles available.

But what do I know. I don't even own an HD player yet. I'm also in the market but am waiting to see what CES introduces.

I still have my Sony BDP-S1 and it has been rock solid since new....

Just my personal experience.... FWIW I also own the PS3, and have had several Samsung players, all have worked fine with the exception of needing firmware updates from time to time.
