Default Re: Best albums of the 2000's

Audioslave is strong too. I know its a kinda super band from the 1990's so it might not count.

Velvet Revolver is also good in the same space.

Look - by today's standards, we should be happy we have them.

Thumbs up Total Sleeper - Peter Gabriel's OVO

Great concept record that went WAY under the radar.

Its REALLY good. A few KILLER tracks and a good overall concept. Well produced. OK-sounding for audio (Gabriel's stuff is never GREAT - even on SACD)

Default Re: Snubs, complaints and hate-mail about the top 100 albums list

The list is a fair discussion start point but personally I can't see 4 Metallica albums making it. I may be showing my age, but here are what I think are glaring omissions: Traffic - John Barleycorn Must Die, Steely Dan - Can't Buy A Thrill, Allman Bros. - 1st, Idlewild South and Eat A Peach, Dylan - Highway 61 & Blood on the Tracks, The Stones - Sticky Fingers, Crosby, Stills & Nash - 1st, Who's Next and Live at Leeds, American Beauty as only an Honorable Mention, pre-Buckingham/Nicks Fleetwood Mac? Not one selection by Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell or Janis Joplin? I know some may want to categorize the 1st two as folk but they fit the rock genre better than some of the metal groups on the list.

Jerry may not think Mick & Keith are worthy of carrying Jimmy Page's guitar case, but great music isn't always defined by instrumental pyrotechnics. Had there been a judgment category for radio overplay Zep IV would never have made the list.

There is room for more than my opinion and MANY of the judges are BIG Stones fans but still the records didn't do that well in our voting.

I personally went back and re-listened to Exile, Beggar's and many of the other Stones records. I just don't get it.

Metallica could (note the past tense) REALLY play. I think thier songs are more developed, their concepts stronger on the records and the musicanship is better thus how they got on the list 4x.

Steely Dan's Aja is a KILLER on our list but I personally struggle with their other records. They seem like they are trying too hard. Aja has a GREAT concept, great sound and REALLY passes the test of time.

GREAT to see you posting. Hope to see you become a regular on our forum.
