If I were to pick one review in my career that I am most proud of it would be this one of Metallica's St. Anger. To set the stage - they are one of my ALL TIME favorite bands of all time. Ride the Lighting, Master of Puppets and ...And Justice For All make up one of the BEST runs in recorded music history.... That gets me to this NIGHTMARE of a record. Fresh out of rehab and with a life coach trying to help them write MEAN metal songs and their long-time producer playing bass - this record sets NEW levels for suckdom. Read the review and tell me if you think I am off base. I DARE you to listen to the record "I'm madly in anger with Youuuuuuuu" (I am going to puke)

Complete agreement here. The only thing I like about this record is Lars squeaky kick drum. It reminds me of the CCR record (Pendulum?) where the other guys insisted on writing songs too. They had John Fogerty in the band and thought they could write something out better than he?
Plus I've watched the Monster Doc a couple of times and when Lars sells his paintings at the end I wretch, want to shoot my TV as if Goulet's on, and go get a fried peanutbutter and banana sandwich. |

I don't have the album - and simply watching the documentary of the creation of it was proof positive that they jumped the shark as a real metal band - as if the black album wasn't evidence enough.
Sad but true..... Ok that was a weak joke and I apologize for it. ![]() |

When a band's lead singer is coming out of rehab needs a "life coach" to guide the direction of the album and the producer has to take over on bass for a long-time band member - SOMEBODY at the record label needs to say WAIT A MINUTE HERE. This record might just SUCK...
Nobody did that.

At least they gave the bass player a million dollars to sell his musical soul. That's one good thing I can say. Sorry but it took me a couple of weeks to think one up.
